Why Organic?

It’s often been said that ‘we are what we eat’, but to what extent does this impact the environment? We already know that a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates, fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals is critical to our health but what about the environmental influence it has from farm to fork? In India alone, consumers are buying low-quality products because of their price - this in turn affects the day-to-day nutrition of many and may lead to problems such as obesity. This has an effect on our health and mental wellbeing.

Organic food is the way to go. Eating organic food items has its benefits. Many people have started following an organic diet from reduced pesticides and additives, increased nutrients, or just because it felt good or looked better that way. Following a diet that is rich in organic items ensures a person's overall health and fitness. This type of diet is also a wise choice for the environment too since increasing produce demand means less land being used by farm fields, creating less pollution and preserving more natural habitats for animals.

  1. Free from harmful pesticides & chemicals

When it comes to organic farming versus conventional or traditional farming, there are many alternatives to synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilisers. In fact, in many cases these non-toxic pesticides are better than the common sprays that farmers over the years have been using for pest control and soil enhancement. Pesticides can contain all kinds of nasty residues which can have adverse effects on human health if eaten which is why so many farmers may be interested in switching to a more natural option. Synthetic pesticides have been linked to various types of diseases like cancers, and even brain tumours. Conventional farmers may want to consider this information before slathering their crops with herbicides, insecticides or fungicides!

  1. Better Quality

Produce, such as vegetables and fruits, that is grown by organic farming methods has a notable and reputable quality about it because these products are naturally grown without the use of toxic chemicals or pesticides. This also means you know they are fresh because these foods are not treated with any preservative for longer shelf life. Whereas most commercial produce brands add flavors to food items using artificial colors or additives in their recipes, organic produce brands use natural oxides in their recipe book like. As the old saying goes "you are what you eat", which may explain why those who opt out of eating healthy ingredients don't seem to have much energy or feel great, but instead become tired and depressed enough that they fall ill.

  1. Supports Environment

Organic food is good for the environment and better for us personally. It's even better for people who supply it because they avoid working with harmful chemicals that are bad for them, but also bad for the environment. This is because chemicals can contaminate soil which has a serious knock on effect on other plants, animals living near farm fields and fishing areas - not to mention potentially poisoning the rest of us when we end up eating these plants or animals! This isn't to say that organic farming doesn't use any inputs at all, it just uses natural ones like manure and using crop rotation to improve soil fertility as opposed to just adding in a ton of harsh chemical fertilizers. By working naturally towards longer term sustainability, it's helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions too.
